You've heard of STEAM and STEM, but how about STREAM? The 'R' stands for reading and is such an important part of our day! In these activities, we are linking STEAM projects to a read aloud. This pack is dedicated to the picture book, "How to Catch a Turkey," by Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton.
The activities included in this pack are perfect for the month of November and for an engineering project in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Students are asked to build a turkey trap! They must stay within a budget and can only use certain materials to build a trap that will stop all the craziness caused by the turkey!
In this pack, there is everything you need to link the story to multiple areas.
Begin by reading the story to your students. Kids are never too old to be read to, and this book is so much fun!
Included in the pack:
Your kids will have a blast with this book and the activities included here. There is enough included where you could focus on this book for an entire day OR you could come back to this a few times during the week. Because multiple subjects are integrated into this pack, you will find many ways to use the contents.
Materials needed for this project are as follows:
*Paper (cardstock would be best)
Teacher materials include:
*A Long dowel
*A pulley (you can get away with not using a pulley for this project, but this would work out best).
Have fun with this STREAM project! I know your kiddos will.
