Description
This Scratch Design & Animate Projectdirectly supports NGSS Standards MS.ETS.1.1–1.4: To plan, test, and improve design solutions by clearly defining the problem, evaluating ideas using a structured process, analyzing test data to combine the best features, and using models to support repeated testing and improvement. The purpose of this 45 minute, 5E investigation is to use the Scratch platform to design and build a short animation that solves a creative challenge, allowing students to apply the engineering design process through iterative testing and improvement of their digital project. In this activity, students will use the free MIT Scratch programming environment to explore coding and animation tools, brainstorm a design concept, and develop a short animated project. They will practice defining goals, testing ideas, modifying their animation based on feedback, and using digital modeling to improve outcomes. This STEAM-based activity incorporates elements of science, technology, and art while reinforcing problem-solving and critical thinking. This package includes powerpoint resources, a lesson plan, instructor activity guide, students activity guide, response worksheet, answer key, and digital response worksheet. Just print, prep, and it’s ready to go.
