We created this resource as a flexible project that can be used throughout
the school year for many STEAM/STEM projects. In our classroom, we
assemble a journal for each student or group at the beginning of the school
year that can be used for any project that utilizes the Engineering Design
Process. Our goal is for each student/group to complete 10 Projects by the
end of the school year. Students are expected to use their assigned goal to
focus their ideas.
Keep in mind, you may also use this resource as a complete lesson on its
own. For example, you can use these journal pages to reinforce the use of
the Engineering Design Process, to teach about building structures, or to
answer any Design question you may present. We also recommend using
this as an informal assessment of students’ understanding and ability to
put the Engineering Design Process to use.
