What educators are saying

My students loved this as a different way to learn about this topic! So much more engaging than the traditional methods. More please!

Description

Representation is Intentional.

Lack of representation leads to exclusion, promotes bias and prejudice, limits learning experiences, and misrepresents the current and historic contributions of a diverse group of STEM professionals. STEM 4 Justice promotes social justice by addressing the lack of diversity in STEM educational resources. Students and teachers will explore the possible reasons for the lack of diversity in STEM resources and act with intentionality to expand their knowledge of diverse STEM professionals.

The STEM 4 Justice Five-Day Unit includes an introductory exploration for educators. In the opening exploration, educators will have opportunities to experience STEM 4 Justice lessons as learners. The format of the introductory lessons mirror student lessons; however, some of the content has been modified to meet the needs of adult learners. The opening exploration is best suited for an all-day professional learning session or a series of professional learning communities (PLC) meetings.

The STEM 4 Justice Five-Day Unit also includes lessons and activities designed to cover at least five days of learning. Students will have opportunities to reflect on diversity in STEM, complete activities designed to promote higher-order thinking, and engage in honest dialogue on issues surrounding the current state of diversity in STEM learning resources. This STEM 4 Justice Freebie and the Five-Day Unit is compatible with TPT Digital Activities.

This STEM 4 Justice Freebie was made possible through the generous support of the Teachers Pay Teachers Teach for Justice Grant.
