In this STEM project students will:
Research online an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh (Technology)
Build a pyramid for the Pharaoh (Engineering)
Measure the volume and surface area of the pyramid (Math)
Mummify a doll to better understand the mummification process (Science)
Build a Sarcophagus for your Pharaoh (Engineering)
Design an Amulet for your Pharaoh (Art and Engineering)
Write an excavation report about the Pharaoh and what you would find in the pyramid.
Website links provided for online research of the Pharaohs.
Rubic is included to grade students on the Social Studies standards
6.SS.2 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the early civilizations of, Egypt by representing it inside of pyramid
6.W.02 Write informative texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization,
6.W.02b Develop the topic with relevant facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples.
6.L.01 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
6.L.02 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
MS-ETS1 Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to
determine how well they meet the criteria of the problem
MS-ETS1 Develop a model to generate data for iterative testing and modification
6.G.A.1 Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
6.G.A2. Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths, and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formulas V = l w h and V = b h to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
6.G.A4. Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply
these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
