This STEAM lesson is designed to get students thinking about animals from one of the seven continents, Australia and animal adaptations of marsupials. This easy STEAM activity asks students to work cooperatively with a team to design and test a pouch for a pretend lost kangaroo. This lesson is intended to help students explore an animal adaptation for marsupials, a pouch to carry young. I have designed this lesson to pair with my Australia Travel Book, which can be found in my TpT store.
This download includes:
1. STEAM lesson recording sheet for students to record all parts of the STEAM process
2. Pictures of my class trying out their own kangaroo pouches
I recommend pairing this lesson with either lessons on animal adaptations or seven continent study of Australia. I recommend reviewing information about kangaroos before starting the lesson to give students some background knowledge and activate creative thinking.
With references to Australia, I also recommend you pair this activity with either my small book on Australia or your own resources on the country.
