Kangaroo Rescue!

This STEM lesson is designed to get students thinking about animals from one of the seven continents, Australia and animal adaptations of marsupials. This easy STEM activity asks students to work cooperatively with a team to design and test a pouch for a pretend lost kangaroo.

This lesson is intended to help students explore an animal adaptation for marsupials, a pouch to carry young. I have designed this lesson to pair with my Australia Informational Text, which can be found in my TpT store.

This download includes:
1. STEM lesson recording sheets for students
2. Teacher Resource Page
- Book recommendations
- YouTube links about kangaroos and joeys
3. Two versions of a Cost Sheet
- This add on feature allows students to practice money skills by associating a cost to each material used (using play money)
- Students can then budget out how to use their money to buy supplies for building
4. Photos of students working on this project

Materials recommended to complete the project are:
Duck Tape
Rubber Bands
Clorox Wipe Container

I recommend pairing this lesson with either lessons on animal adaptations or seven continent study of Australia. I recommend reviewing information about kangaroos before starting the lesson to give students some background knowledge and activate creative thinking.
