This is a STEM based activity where they students had to work in teams to design and build a tower that can support a beach ball. There was certain criteria that they had to follow, and they also had to keep track of how much money they spent on their materials. I gave out the tape and paper, and everytime someone from a team came to get more materials, they had to keep track of it on the recording sheet.
After viewing the PPT, each student got to make a design and then each team decided which design would be best. Then they constructed their towers within the time frame and then tested the towers with the beach ball on top.
PPT and recording sheet are included in this purchase.
(Please note the necessary materials are purchased separately.)
1 beach ball per team of students (no more than 4 students to a team)
Cardboard base (I used cut cereal boxes)
Rolls of masking tape
You could also set this activity and the materials up in an independent center.
