STEM Bird Feeder Challenge

Here is a great STEM activity that uses seeds in a unique way! You will love watching your students engineer the creation of a bird feeder! Students design their own feeder following the given requirements, and the end results are amazing!

What is the challenge?

• Students will be using materials to design and build a bird feeder that must be functional and follow construction constraints.
• Students can view and critique images of bird feeders to help gather ideas and sketch their own versions.
• After discussing their options students will list materials needed for the task based on the items gathered.
• The completed bird feeders can be painted and varnished in order to be used outdoors.
• (Images of bird feeders for your introduction of this task are not included. I gathered images from online sources.)

What is your prep?

You will need supplies in addition to this package. This includes cardboard pieces, boxes of all sizes, plastic water bottles, craft sticks, straws, string, pipe cleaners, cardboard tubes, cardstock, paint and brushes, varnish, birdseed,

hot glue guns, and glue.
