Elementary STEAM or STEM Challenges are fun for all ages! From Kindergarten to fifth grade, grab a buddy class and jump into the Float a Boat Challenge. This unit is designed for one lower elementary class working with one upper elementary class. It is possible for you to do this project on your own, but the worksheets are designed for some assistance from the older buddy.
Float a Boat Challenge is a fun activity where students will be given a mystery bag. Each group will be given the same materials. It is fun to see them each design different boats with different results. You can do this activity at the end of the year to “Sail into Summer” or you can use it in November to incorporate this with Thanksgiving.
This unit is designed to take approx. 1 session of an hour to 90 minutes. You might need a second session to complete all of the student assignment sheets.
