Product Description
This is one fantastic STEM challenge that is now in our top three all-time favorites! It’s a bungee jump challenge using rubber bands and a ton of math!

This challenge is available in money-saving bundles.
Experiment and Design Bundle
6-Pack Bundle featuring Real Life Adventures

In this challenge students will experiment with dropping a toy figure with an increasing number of rubber bands – a modified bungee jump! They will keep data tables of the jumps and then average the jump trials. They will also graph the results and after 7 jump trials will use the data table and graph to attempt to predict the number of rubber bands that will be needed to jump from a much higher height. Can they use their data accurately enough to give the doll a safe ride? Wow, this is the best way to practice averaging, using graphs and data tables, predicting by using data, and total collaboration!

This challenge includes two methods for use. The first method is inquiry/discovery based with students determining how they will use the data table and graph information with very teacher direction. The second method is teacher directed with analyzing data, graphing, using averaging and finding the median, and predicting based on the data. Each method has its own set of lab sheets. The graphing page is also included.

★Materials you will need in addition to this package include: rubber bands, toy figures (like a 10 inch doll), Measuring tapes, and calculators.

This package specifically contains: Cover page, Teacher Background page, Table of Contents, Materials and Preparation page, 4 pages of Teacher Directions applicable to the experiment portion of the task, 4 pages of Teacher Directions for Method 1, Method 1 lab sheets, 3 pages of Teacher Directions for Method 2, Method 2 lab sheets, Errors page, Reflections page, 3 pages of Photos, a scoring rubric. and a Terms of Use page. The teacher direction pages include photos and samples of student work. In some cases the samples are large in order for you to see them adequately. Also, all forms are provided in an editable format!

This was a fabulous challenge and one my students LOVED! If your style is to allow student choice as part of their learning try Method 1. If you like a more teacher-directed approach, then try Method 2. I used both and they both worked great!
