Description

This is such an amazing collaborative STEM activity! Students must join together with another group to complete the task! One team builds a bridge and the other team builds a tower for the bridge. This is the ultimate in teamwork since the teams must communicate as they build! Super challenge!

Please note: This challenge is available in a money-saving bundle.

What is the challenge?

Students will be designing and creating towers or bridges using the same supplies. Each task has its own requirements. A bridge group will be partnered with a tower group and they must communicate as they design and build because in the end the tower will be placed on the bridge. Can the bridge group build a bridge with enough support for the tower? Can the tower group build a tower with a strong enough base? Can they successfully discuss their designs and make improvements so the two structures work together? It’s the ultimate collaborative challenge!

There are many options for using this package- including building the towers and bridges without combining them!

What is your prep?

You will need supplies in addition to this package. This includes modeling dough, rubber bands, craft sticks, straws, card stock paper, and masking tape.

The package specifically contains:

  • Cover
  • Teacher Background
  • Materials and Preparation page
  • 2 pages of Teacher Step-by-Step Directions,
  • 4 pages of photos,
  • Task constraints on 2 formats
  • Lab sheets specific to each task
  • Sample answers of one set of lab sheets
  • Scoring rubric
  • All forms are also provided in an editable format.
