Description
Let's try a drawbridge! Students are building a drawbridge model that opens and closes. We used new pencils as a building material and we have tried dowel sticks. The resource includes details about both!
This challenge is available in money-saving bundles!
What is the challenge?
In this challenge, students will design and build a drawbridge that follows some specific constraints. Kids will be creative as they decide how to use the string and pencils, but they must also be diligent in making a bridge that is not flimsy. The final structure must cross over a one-foot gap and open and close in some way. You can opt for the final bridge to be tested for its ability to hold weight, if you like. There are several choices for you to make in the use of this challenge. Lab sheets and constraints posters for the options are all provided.
What is your prep?
You will need supplies in addition to this package. This includes new pencils, masking tape, rubber bands, pipe cleaners, string, cardboard pieces, straws, copy paper, pennies for weights- optional, small bowls- optional, OR instead of pencils- Craft sticks and Straws OR instead of pencils Craft sticks and Dowel sticks
