S.T.E.M. Challenges are an amazingly fun way to promote collaboration, critical thinking, communication, science, technology, engineering, and math skills all into one lesson!
I like to have my students do about four S.T.E.M. Challenges a month, or one a week. I make them a new journal for each month.
Each student should have one copy of pages 4-7, and then duplicate copies of the S.T.E.M. Challenge planning and response sheets. There are different sets of questions to pick and choose from.
I give my groups their supplies, post the problem/challenge on the board, and let my students know how much time I’ll give them for each stage.
3 minutes for discussion/planning with group.
5 minutes for designing their idea.
15 minutes to put their plan into action.
3 minutes for final improvements.
15 minutes for reflection.
Just add a S.T.E.M. Challenge!!!
