You are going to love watching your students problem-solve within their own team and then join with another team to build one structure. It's the ultimate in working together!

What is the challenge?
Students will be designing and creating either a launching device or a target using the same supplies. Each task has its own requirements. A launching device group will be partnered with a target group and they must communicate as they design and build. When both groups are finished they will try the launcher by firing at the target. Can the launcher group design a device that will propel the soft object at the right angle? Can the target group create a structure that will withstand being hit? Can the two groups really have a partnership and work together? This package includes constraint of the task for each structure in two formats- a single sheet or small cards to make for each group. Lab sheets are also specific to the two tasks. Another option is to have the entire class create the launchers one day and then the targets on the second day.
What is your prep?
You will need supplies in addition to this package. This includes: cardboard tubes, Styrofoam cups, rubber bands, craft sticks, straws, plastic spoons, masking tape, and mini marshmallows.
