Students will design and make a mini-sled using recyclables and basic household/classroom materials. The challenge is to design a sled with the goal of winning a race. This resource includes all of the materials to help guide students through this engineering challenge. Learners will practice critical thinking, problem-solving, inquiry skills, teamwork and more. They will also learn science content, such as Newton's Laws of Motion, throughout the experience.
NOTE: This challenge DOES NOT require snow. If you have access to a hill with snow, absolutely use it. But you can simulate a sledding hill using any number of materials. This challenge is also low-prep. Just gather materials and get started! This product is great for experienced STEM teachers as well as those that are new to STEM.
