Are you ready for some holiday STEM activities! This Christmas Tree STEM Challenge has so many ways you can try. One of the planning pages lists multiple versions so you can pick and choose what will work for your students. The one item that makes this a unique challenge is the use of a brown paper bag. How will your students use that bag while creating this seasonal tree?

Note: This challenge is available in a money-saving bundle!

What is the challenge?

In this challenge, students will design and build a Christmas tree using a variety of materials that you will choose. Several different methods of choosing the materials are included. The tricky part of the challenge is that brown paper bag. It must be used in the tree design in some way. Just how creative can your students be in using such a simple paper product? Your kids will love making these little trees!

What is your prep?

You will need supplies in addition to this package. This includes brown lunch bags (sacks), pipe cleaners, pom-poms, construction paper, craft sticks, Q-tips, craft foam, white glue and glue sticks, straws, and masking tape.

The package specifically includes

  • cover
  • teacher background
  • materials and preparation page
  • 7-page Teacher's Guide
  • 4 pages of photographs
  • 2 extra hints pages
  • 1 lab sheet for student use with sample answers
  • task constraints
  • scoring rubric
  • editable forms file
  • Terms of Use

Check the preview to see which forms are editable. The hints pages include a listing showing three different versions of using the materials- all of which we tested!
