This worksheet is a nice graphic organizer to plan out an engineering idea using the STEM Design Cycle. I have used this resource with my Elementary Science lab for years to provide a consistent method for designing solutions to a problem. I find it works best to repeat challenges and ask them to reference their notes from the previous worksheet, to allow for them to improve over time. Now my students get excited when they walk through the door and see those worksheets out!
Goes through each of the 5 steps of the STEM Design Cycle:
ASK- What is the problem I am trying to solve?
IMAGINE SOLUTIONS- What are some ways I can solve this problem?
MAKE A PLAN- What is the best idea and how will I build or create it?
TEST AND RECORD RESULTS- What happened when you tested your design? Was it successful in solving the problem?
IMPROVE YOUR DESIGN- Next time, I will...
