At my school, I had one day a week for STEM. On our STEM day, we would spend anywhere from 30-45 minutes working on our STEM project. This project will most likely take three weeks or three 45 minute sessions.
Best time to use this STEM project would be during or after a unit on Georgia's 1st grade Famous Americans. The students do need to measure with inches using a ruler.
I am in the process of going through all of the STEM activities I created over the past couple of years. If you are interested in seeing more STEM design briefs, click the red "follow me" next to my store name and you will be updated on when new products are posted.
