Welcome to STEM For Young Learners – Tomatoes. Designed for teachers, students and parents, these STEM lessons integrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math for grades K – 2. Using food-themed lessons as a springboard and the maker movement for inspiration, students develop higher-order thinking, problem-solving and communication skills. Incorporated into the Tomatoes theme is a science lesson on the planting and caring for tomato plants. A technology lesson in which search the internet for information on the life cycle of a tomato create a life cycle chart using the draw feature of Google Docs, an engineering lesson in which design a free-standing cherry tomato run ramp to deliver a cherry tomato to a cup, and a math lesson where students use their measuring and tasting skills to create a recipe for delicious tomato bruschetta.
