Children are fascinated by simple grow sponges. Place them in water and they are eager to see the next day how they have increased in size. This presents an opportunity not only to learn about water absorption, but to also learn to measure surface area, as students can count the number of squares on a grid that the growing sponge occupies. Make as many copies of the graph paper as you would like. Enjoy!
2 grids are provided, use according to grade level.
