In this lesson students learn the reason why we wear clothes in winter. Students often hold the misconception that clothes produce heat when in fact, heat is held in close to the body because of the clothes we wear. This lesson allows students to investigate how gloves keep our hands warm. They then get to design their own experiment to see if the material gloves are made out of help to keep our hands warm. Lesson plan includes teacher key and connection to reading using the text Sneezy the Snowman! Using the children's literature, students have to predict whether or not Sneezy will melt or freeze. Great lesson to reinforce states of matter changing. Lesson also helps students to practice making predictions based on information they know.
