STEM is being in history course more frequently. For those of you unfamiliar with STEM it integrates all 4 disciplines (science, technology, engineering, math) into a curriculum that allows students to problem solve, critically think, collaborate, and engage in a hands-on experience that teaches students skills for a future workforce.

This assignment will challenge students to participate in a STEM challenge building their own pyramids out of Spaghetti sticks, masking tape, and string.

At the end of this lesson, students are expected to answer the following questions:

  1. Around what time period were pyramids being used to house the dead?
  2. Using step-by-step directions, describe how to build a pyramid
  3. Explain why people were buried in pyramids? What did these things contain? Why was it important that they had these things in their pyramids and tombs?
  4. Using information from the videos, describe why death was such a big thing to Egyptians? Was dying considered good or bad?

This lesson can also be used a substitute or review activity. All lessons have been tested in classrooms and teachers have had success!

This is a perfect lesson for any educator looking for ways to get their students actively using different types of resources to educate themselves.
