This design challenge is an interactive, hands-on STEM activity. For this activity, each group will need, 2 pieces of newspaper and 30 inches of tape. Students are broken up into design teams to complete steps in the design process to complete the Paper Tower Challenge. This activity can easily be used as a teambuilding activity because the students are able to collaborate and work together in order to complete the challenge. This can also be used to practice measurement and to introduce how the properties of solids change when a force is applied to an object. After the time is up, have each group explain and test their design. As a class, discuss what was successful and what was unsuccessful in the designs. Also discuss with the class what they would do differently next time.
