Looking for a fun hands-on way to reinforce the size and scale of the planets in comparison to the sun? In this activity, students will create 3D models of their very own planets! Students will begin this activity by doing some background research about the planets in our solar system using interactive Google slides. Then students will design their own planets by describing the atmosphere, geography, and unique features of their planet. Lastly, students will create their 3D model and use their scaled model to determine the scaled size of the sun in comparison to their model. Students will love getting their hands a little messy as they demonstrate their creativity in this project.
This resource includes:
-A teacher version of the interactive slides with teacher notes, lesson plans, and instructions for the project
-A student version of the interactive slides
-Rubric for grading the student's planet projects
Next Generation Science Standard:
