This engaging project has students working as engineers to determine what would be the best mortar to use when building a stone house for the famous little pigs. Students will select one of four possible combinations then build a model of the house using small aquarium stones and their prepared mortar. After drying houses are tested against wind, water, and earthquakes and their observations about how sturdy they are is compared.
This can be a messy project but is so much fun and so engaging for elementary students! Brings STEM to a whole new light.
