Over 1/2 off Bundled Savings
Science Bundle- Great for Grades 4th - 6th!
10 Labs and Activities Included
1- Density Activity Lab
Density of a solid and liquid activities. This lab consists of two activities: testing the density of a liquid and testing the density of a solid.
The students will build a simple boat (tin foil or clay) that will carry "cargo" (centimeter cubes). The density of the boat will determine how much cargo it can carry.
In the second activity, the student will test the density of two liquids (water and rubbing alcohol) by attempting to float a pin on top of the liquids.
Fun activities that promote critical thinking.
2-Chemical Reaction Activity Rocket Lab
Are you studying matter? This Rocket Lab will be a great culminating activity to your Matter Unit. After learning about chemical reactions, the students will build and launch a rocket. They will then use the data from their launch to create Line Plot Graphs.
This activity is great for the critical thinkers in your classroom!!! It allows them to observe, react, and make changes to their rocket for a successful launch!
***Update- Use fishing line attached to a whiteboard or chalkboard and string it across the room. Attach it to the other side of the room. Make sure the line is taut. I like to use a strong magnetic hook to attach the line and hang it on a chalkboard. I also like to use a little wd-40 or silicone spray on the line after every 3 or 4 launches***
3- Cell Activities Lab
The students will build a 3-dimensional cell using Play-doh or similar material. The activity is designed to allow students to work in groups but each student will have a very specific task in the design of the cell. The students will construct most major organelles in the cell and have to create a key that gives the function of organelles.
The design of the lesson allows each student to excel at their own ability. All learning styles will benefit from this hands-on, visual activity. The instructions are designed to encourage students to work independently with little teacher involvement.
Great Culminating Activity for your Cells Unit!
Online Cell Field Trip can be used as an introduction to a Cell Unit!
Can be used in Grades 3-7 with little modification.
Three Activities are included in this packet:
1- Hands on cell construction using Play-Doh, pipe cleaners, yarn, etc. (Rubric Included)
2- Cell construction using a drawing app on the computer.
3- Online Cell Field Trip
4-Newton's Laws of Motion Balloon Racer
Eric's Elementary Resource Store
A great activity to test Newton's 3rd Law of Motion.
The students will build a Balloon Racer that relies on the force of air to propel the racer.
The activity includes: A project description, activity sheet, reflection questions, data record sheet, and a rubric
Math Skills (finding mean)
Fun Science Activities
5-Rocks and Minerals Lab
Eric’s Elementary Resource Store
In this activity, students bring a rock into school that will be used in the Rock Lab. This activity is a good culminating activity to any Rock Unit. They need to have prior knowledge of Sedimentary, Igneous, and Metamorphic Rocks.
The students enjoy analyzing their own personal rock. The lesson has more value to them because it is their rock. During the week of the lab, the students are allowed to build a small home to house their rock prior to the lab. They name their rock and give it human like qualities. Included in the lab is a Rock Bio Creative Writing activity. The students really enjoy this activity. By the end of the week, they have become attached to their rock just in time for the Rock Classification Lab.
6- Understanding Elements
The students will learn about the basic components of elements. They will learn how to read a Period Table and identify important components. Online Periodic Table is embedded. In this activity, the students will also learn about Protons, Electrons, Neutrons, and be will be required to identify the phases of elements.
Contains link to periodic table
7-Geology Unit- Written from a student's perspective, the Kids Teach it Better Geology activities will have your students engaged from the beginning. In this packet, the students will learn about:
-Seismograph and Richter Scale
Task Cards and Projects Included along with an answer key!
8. Solar System to Scale Project and Planetary Weight Activity are great activities that connect science and math. In this activity, your students will scale down the distance of the planets in km to cm. This is great decimals connection where your students will divide by the powers of ten (or just use a calculator).
When finished, the students will then create a scaled down model of our solar system which will demonstrate the vast distance between the planets and the sun. Planet cut-outs included.
The second activity allows your students to calculate the weight of a person on various planets, moon, and sun. This is another great math/science connection in which your students will multiply with decimals.
9. Weather Unit- This Weather Unit is written from a student's perspective. It teaches the students about the how's and why's of weather. It is done in a creative way with higher level concepts that are simplified for the students.
Factors that Affect Temperature
Types of Cloud Formation
High and Low Pressure Systems
The packet has text dependent questions, task cards, and multiple project ideas,
Great for grades 4-6!
10. Newtons Laws of Motion-Pendulum Experiment- This science experiment is designed to allow your students to become little scientists. They will work in a small group as they test variables that affect the speed of the pendulum. There is a math connection as the students must graph their results and predict other outcomes based on data. Perfect for grades 4th through 6th grade but can be modified for the younger or older students.
