Are you ready for a STEM challenge that involves seeds? This one is specifically about the ways seeds are dispersed and it’s fantastic!

Seed Series Bundle
STEM by the Month

In this challenge, students will be using materials to design and build a representation of one of the ways seeds are dispersed. Each group will be assigned one of the seed dispersal methods and then must determine which of the materials can be used to best build a model. Finally, the teams will share their creation and demonstrate how it works. Students will be incredibly creative in finding a way to disperse the seeds and will love sharing their final product. It should also be noted that this challenge would be great as a culminating activity for your study of plant growth and students should already have some knowledge of plants and the seed development process. I have included a seed dispersal chart for your convenience.

✂️You will need supplies in addition to this package. This includes Balloons, Tissue paper, Paper clips, Rubber bands, Straws, Yarn, String, Foil, Masking tape, Cotton balls, Craft sticks, Pipe cleaners, Pan of water, Seeds, and other materials of your choice.

The package specifically includes: cover, teacher background, materials and preparation page, 4 pages of teacher directions, a constraints list, 4 pages of photographs, two extra Hints pages, student lab sheet with sample answers, seed dispersal chart in four versions, materials lists for student use in three versions a scoring rubric, and editable form file, and a Terms of Use page. The page count listed for this package includes everything.

This challenge will need 2 class session (2 hours) to complete.
