If you are looking for a way to challenge your students in Socials while engaging them and having them think about applying what they are learning, then this product is for you.
This product will have your students learn about water usage to design an "app". They will also have to work through the design cycle to complete a design challenge. The design challenge will have them use Scratch to create an "app" where the user demonstrates understanding of water use and desalination.
This product has 4 parts.
Part 1: Context for the resource and information for teacher and student.
Part 2: Getting started with Scratch. How to set up an account and learn some basic
Part 3: Projector slides guiding students through the design challenge.
Part 4: Design challenge task cards to be printed off and given to students. Students create their "app" while completing the task cards.
Instructions: read the information for teacher part. If your students need it, show them the "getting started with Scratch" slides and or print them off for your students to follow along and learn the basics. Then, once they are ready, show them the overhead slides guiding them through the design challenge. At the same time, give students the task cards. The overhead slides and task cards go together and compliment each other. Students are meant to complete the task cards while looking at the overhead slides. If you feel like your students don't need the overhead slides, then that is your choice.
This product has steps to help set your students up using Scratch and teach them the basics if they haven't used it before.
Do not worry if you are not familiar with Scratch. The students will pick it up easy and there are lots of resources for them to follow on the Scratch homepage as well as the instructions I have included.
