This is a fun writing/STEM activity for students. Students will create a foil figure out of aluminum foil and an accessory to go along with their character. Using a story map students write a story about their character. The writing activity focuses on character, setting, problem, and resolution. For an additional activity, students create the setting to go along with their story. This isn't a STEM where students create, try it out and redo. It is more like a diorama.
The lesson includes the design brief, instructions on making the foil figure, a story map, a rubric for an oral presentation, narrative writer's checklist, a basic writing rubric, and pictures of examples of the STEM design.
My students really enjoy this activity! At conference, I had a parent tell me her child created an entire family of foil characters at home.
If you find any errors please let me know, and I am happy to fix and resend.
Please note: I don't use a lot of cute graphics on my materials. I have a copy limit at my school and try to use the space on the paper carefully.
