STEM and Dramatic Play

STEM + PLAY was created to meet the needs of today’s busy classrooms as you balance developmentally appropriate activities with the demands of rigorous standards. The PLAY aspect allows you to set up a dramatic play area in your classroom that builds vocabulary, problem solving skills, and communication. Students can use their imaginations as they explore the materials and play together!

The STEM aspect allows learners to experiment with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math skills. It includes 3 different challenges with matching recording pages. Children can play together, experiment with the challenges, and record their discoveries. There are photographic examples of each challenge, but each child or group will create something unique. There is not one “right answer.” There are additional activities included for reading and writing.

This center is easy to set up! You will get posters, bunting, labels, signs and everything else kids need to create a construction zone! A parent letter is included so you can introduce STEM + PLAY to families and ask to borrow materials.

For the STEM challenges, little ones will build and measure towers. They will engineer and test bridges and design their own cities. They can record all of the steps of their challenges using the blue prints and recording pages. This center can be used for an extended time in your classroom, and learners will love playing and working there again and again!
