Santa’s STEM Workshop: Exploring System Engineering
Picture Santa’s Workshop and we are sure you envision elves in an assembly line. Years ago, a visit to a factory to see an assembly line in action was a standard fieldtrip for elementary schools. With safety issues and health codes, those visits are not as frequent now. Since we can't go to them...let's bring the assembly line to our class! System and industrial engineering is a fascinating STEM area to study and lends itself to a discussion of efficiency and its connection to motion and time on task. “How can we get a lot done in a short amount of time?” Whether you are studying the industrial age or just trying to have your students understand organization and efficiency, you will definitely have their attention with this STEM activity that explores systems engineering through an assembly line of sweet treats.
This is an Engineering Energizer lesson that can be completed in less than an hour.
**Note: This is also part of the Edible Engineering Bundle, so if you already have that packet you have this lesson.**
We have other popular STEM lessons called Engineering Energizers that are quick and easy to use in the classroom
