STEM/NGASS LESSON: Student cements understanding of the refined particle model from Lessons 1 and 2 by explaining the phenomenon of a collapsing milk jug.
The student then analyzes changes in KE, mass, volume, and density of the particles within and represents the analysis in a histogram-style "Matter-Energy Change Diagram" to represent changes in the system before and after the bottle is cooled.
The student continues on to answer a series of probing forced response questions. The lesson culminates with applications to water bottles, tires, deflated tetherballs, and bouncy basketballs.
Accompanies Lesson 2 from Unit 2, but can also be modified to stand alone.
