After teaching and discussing sexually transmitted infections, use this project to have students focus in on one of the most common STIs.
Page 1-2: Research Guide
Students will use this guide to discover the information you want them to about the STI. Information like bacterial vs. viral, number of people infected each year, signs and symptoms, treatments, etc.
Page 3: Rubric
Students then take their research and using a program such as Microsoft Publisher will create an informational brochure about their STI. Use this rubric to grade the students.
Pages 4-5: STI Cards
Print these cards on colored cardstock, laminate if possible, then have students draw at random to select the STI they will be researching.
Pages 6-7: Jigsaw Notes
I had each student display their brochure around the room and tried to create a "health fair" type environment where students wandered around and viewed the various brochures giving information about STI. They then used the puzzle sheet to record information about each type of STI.
This project in its' entirety took approximately 3 days in my child development class. 1 day for research, 1 day for brochure creation, 1 day for discovery of all STI.
