Assessing reading levels for non-verbal students is challenging because most reading and comprehension assessments are based on verbal responses. These books are intended to help make teaching non-verbal, or limited verbal students, a little easier. By having students pick the correct picture for each page you can clearly see if the student read the page correctly.
For this set of books each square has a simple sentence on it that describes an item of a specific color (book one is a cat or a dog and book two uses balls of play dough). The student has to read the sentence, find the picture that it is describing and place it on the page it belongs to. Each book contains between 12-16 different pages and the number of pictures you use is completely up to you. There is no specific order for these pages so you can start with a little as two page as add to them as your students understand the concept. This set are emergent level readers and they are intended for beginning readers. Also included is an assessment page for keeping track of students progress learning new words.
