HELP YOUR STUDENTS ACHIEVE GENUINE SUCCESS IN READING - QUICKLY AND PAINLESSLY! This is one of two files that approach tackling a mountain of text. As you know, even before the Common Core, emphasis was placed on longer passages with fewer questions. For strong readers, this poses no threat, but for weak or reluctant readers, this is a death knell to a good test score. THIS FILE IS FOR WEAK READERS (of independent age who WANT to get more out of what they read) and THIS FILE IS FOR HESITANT READERS of any age who typically avoid reading. "Speed Reading" has been knocked as a quack science \ strategy, however, good readers often innately use the methods of Surveying, Scanning, Skipping, and Skimming to get to the main idea much faster. Once students have the main idea, they have a tendency to take a greater interest in what they are reading. This file shows students (with semi-animated motions) HOW to do these types of searches. Teachers can "reassure" students that they will not have to "read" passages (as they practice these READING methods). This reassurance lowers the affective filters of students, lowering their guard and allowing teaching to take place more easily!
