Why SUMMARIZE? The reason we summarize a story is because we want to describe in an accurate form the main idea and the details that support that idea of the story in a brief manner.
Writing a summary is not an easy task. A decent summary includes all of the important features of a particular story, so that the reader that has not read the story yet can understand what is all about. So, the most important component of a good summary is the capability to truly illustrate what is in the original story. To do that, you need to be aware of the story you are summarizing. In order to be able to brief one story, you need to be very much familiar with it, that means you need to read it a few times so that you can relate to it. Once you are familiar with it, then you need to narrate the important points that back the story up. In other words, the details and the main idea.
