Like several verbs in Spanish, there are two verbs that are translated the same way in English. Saber and conocer both mean to know, which can be confusing and tricky for students at first. However, this animated PowerPoint uses an exploration/discovery approach to give your students the tools they need to master the difference between conocer and saber. It’s not as difficult as it seems, when broken down into manageable segments. Use it along with the guide notes and interactive practice included in the PowerPoint to give your students a great foundation for using saber and conocer in the right context and situations. Once they have the information and have had to discuss the two verbs and their differences, they need to practice. So, I have included a set of questions to give the students the opportunity to think about which verb to use, discuss why one would fit the situation better than the other, and ultimately then see the verb that best suits. Once the answer is revealed, students may need additional time to discuss and explain the answer provided. This animated, interactive PowerPoint with graphics allows teachers to focus more on the class and to interact with them as they discuss the concepts of the verbs saber and conocer. Since teacher prep time can be so time consuming among the many other tasks they must complete, my goal in all my products is to provide high quality products that are inexpensive while easing the time, stress, and pressure involved in lesson preparation.
This 45-slide PowerPoint includes 28 slides of animated/interactive material with questions to guide their thinking and individualize the explanations to ensure their understanding. An opportunity is provided for students to compare and contrast the use of saber and conocer in the same sentence, before beginning to practice completing sentences themselves. This could be done as a class, groups, or individually. After discussing the answer, students should give the correct form of whichever verb they chose along with an explanation as to why he/she/they choose that verb. Later these 16 questions could be used as a quick assessment or self-checking activity. The text is editable on each slide so that if you would like to change a vocabulary word or sentence. Due to the animation you do have to be careful when making chances.
