Sacagawea, Her Life and Times is designed as a multi-purpose informational reading and writing unit for upper elementary students. It can be equally utilized in an ELA or Social Studies class. There are two reading texts and six student work pages.
The two chronological texts are:
Part 1: “Who was Sacagawea?” about her early life, and
Part 2: “Sacagawea and the Corps of Discovery”.
Each text has:
--- a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion), and
--- a page of vocabulary and language use work and a short creative writing assignment.
1) a one-page cloze activity using the twelve vocabulary words from Parts 1 and 2 (introduced in the work sheet for each part) and 2) a “words within words” puzzle in which students find words within the name “Corps of Discovery”. The latter includes a couple of student challenges.
All of the student work pages and the puzzle have answer keys.
This resource is also part of a bundle of two of my products - the other being Lewis and Clark, Their Lives and Times. They are slightly different in format and a small amount of historical information does overlap with the two. The word puzzle included in this resource can be used for either. The bundle may be viewed here: Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea Bundle
