Product Description
This extensive Common Core aligned unit contains everything you need to implement a meaningful interdisciplinary study of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr. Originally designed and used with my 6th-8th grade ESOL students, this novel study is also great for mainstream 4th and 5th grade classrooms as well! The lesson plans are aligned with 5th grade CCSS. This unit also includes differentiated activities for students at different proficiency levels as well as technology integrated activities.

Since the chapters are short, I've divided the novel study into four sections:
-Chapters 1 & 2
-Chapters 3 & 4
-Chapters 5 & 6
-Chapters 7-9

Includes:
-3 background building activities with detailed daily lesson plans: All about Japan, World War II Major Events, and The Atom Bomb Decision
-Detailed daily lesson plans, activities and printables for each set of chapters (only available in the full novel study unit!)
-3 extension lessons: Leukemia, Preparing for Socratic Seminar, Conducting Socratic Seminar with detailed daily lesson plans
-Teacher Notes for each part of the unit
-Vocabulary Activities for each set of chapters
-Vocabulary list by chapter
-Comprehension Questions for each set of chapters
-Multiple Choice Quizzes for each set of chapters
-Test for each set of chapters
-Sadako Folder Checklist
-Answer Keys

Skills covered include literature and non-fiction skills:
-Character Traits
-Inferring/Predicting
-Theme
-Story Elements
-Comparing Characters
-Main Idea
-Interpreting information from multiple sources
-Exploring multiple accounts of an event
-Explain relationships between events/people
