Phonics Boxes are activities formatted for the boxes available at Michaels that contain 16 smaller boxes. These activities can also be stored in 6x9 brown envelopes or any other way you would like to store them. Each “box” contains a sound or syllable sort and a flashcard activity/game. The cards can also be used just as flashcards and, if laminated, you can have your students use dry erase markers to highlight phonic concepts (such as vowels, digraphs, blends, etc.) There is a title card for the front of the box or envelope and directions. I use double-sided tape to adhere them.

“Saddle Up” is for identifying and reading words with consonant-le syllables.
For the word sort, students will decide if the word is Closed/Consonant-le or Open/Consonant-le. 2 header cards and 30 word cards are included.
For the game “Saddle Up”, 48 syllable cards are included. This is played like a concentration game. Cowboys are placed face down on one side of the table and horses on the other side. Students take turns drawing one card from each side, reading the word and deciding if it is a real word. If it is, they keep the pair. If it isn’t the cards are placed face down where they picked them up. Play passes to the next student. The student with the most pairs at the end of the game is the winner. Please note – for the second syllable there will be multiple copies of the same syllable.
