The project entails students studying sadza batiks created by the Shona Tribe. The students will choose an animal as the subject for their batik and create a border around the animal. The students will learn how to trace their batik design onto the cotton, apply the sadza paste, paint their image, and how to remove the dried sadza paste. Student can either make panel to hand on the wall, or with the use of the textile medium they can make panels for pillows, a class quilt, or to go on the front of t-shirts.
You get the project outline, two marking rubrics, a journal page, and information on the elements and/or principle of design being studied as well as any pertinent information based on the theme.
