Your students will not sink but sail through these math centers because you have taught them well. The Titanic and her story are still fascinating so the students are naturally engaged in this lesson. Since April 15,1912, is the anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking, the media will run stories that heighten interest in the subject matter at that time. Around that time is a good time to have students complete these math centers but it works any time of the year. This lesson contains an information sheet with different information about the Titanic for all four of the centers, a “tent” with the center’s skill typed on it to identify each center, and questions over the information sheet. This lesson should be done after you teach and/or review what the four centers are about:
• formulas—area, volume, perimeter, circumference
• solving multi-step problems
Answer KEYs provided for all four centers.
