PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is an educational and fun activity with a Saint Patrick’s Day theme. Students will read an original nonfiction article about Saint Patrick and the symbols that have come to represent the holiday. The article is followed by a set of comprehension questions and a whole class discussion. The included discussion questions give the teacher the opportunity to touch on the following Language Arts concepts:
•Fiction vs. nonfiction
•Author’s tone
•Organizational structure
•Symbolism

Following the discussion, the students will use their creativity to invent a holiday that honors something special about themselves. The students will be required to outline details of the celebration and create relevant symbols to represent their holiday.

I have also included the answer key, a teacher’s discussion guide to aid in the teaching process, and an example of the holiday activity.

The lesson includes
•A detailed lesson plan
•A one page original nonfiction article
•Comprehension questions regarding the article
•Discussion questions and teaching points
•A “create your own holiday” student handout

Check out the preview to see part of the lesson plan and the holiday worksheet.
