The goal of this project is to give students practice with finding percent, taking percent off of a given amount and adding percent to a given amount.
Students become entrepreneurs. They must create a store and a sales advertisement.
The information below is contained in this file. It is listed in rubric form. There are 2 rubrics per page. Each required item list the total percent that can be attained by the student for that item. This assignment usually takes approximently 50 minutes to complete by student.
Students sales ad must have:
- A store name
- 6 items that have a regular price listed, a percentage off listed.
They must have a “new” sale price that reflects the percentage off.
After the students complete the sales ad the teacher will pick 3 items on their ad they want to purchase from the store.
The student will then create a receipt that has:
- The items the teacher wants, the sale price of each item, a total for all items without sales tax, and a total of all items after sales taxes.
The following Common Core Standards are covered with this assignment:
6.RP 3. Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
c. Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a per 100 (e.g. 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity), solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent
7.RP.3. Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.
