Skills practice focused on solving problems dealing with Percent of a Number, more specifically calculating sales tax and income tax.
This activity included 10 problems (5 sales tax, 5 income tax) , 1 student answer sheet, and 1 answer key.
Gallery Walks can be used to see what information the students have retained and to basically check for understanding. It gives the students opportunity for movement as they walk around the room and discuss with their peers how to solve the problems.
Each person receives an answer sheet. You can pair up students or assign them into a small group. Students can start at any card as long as they get to visit each card in order to make sure that they have all the problems are solved.
Time Management: This activity is not intended to last a class period. I usually give my give students a time limit, usually about 15-20 minutes and then we come back to whole group and discuss our findings.
