Thank you so much for purchasing this product! It is my hope that by using these fun developmentally appropriate centers your students will be engaged and entertained! In my 9 years of teaching kindergarten I have seen it become more and more academic. And the children are still 5 years old! It is my job to provide my students with academically focused, developmentally appropriate practice during centers; I mean after all, they are 5 and want to play! I can’t stand a worksheet! So, I went to create these “fun and focused” center activities for my students. I hope you can find them useful too!
Salt Box Writer is a great center for Word Work or an Alphabet (ABC) center. It would also work great in a handwriting or writing center.
I currently have my salt boxes in my “Work on Words” center with my students practicing their sight words. I copied the sight word cards onto colored paper, or construction paper, according to my lists (for example, list 1 is pink, etc.). I purposefully did not color code the words in this packet so you can use it to fit your sight word program. My students know what list they are working on so they just grab the salt box that is their color (you can use stickers or colored paper squares taped to the boxes) and get to work!
This center is easy to prepare – all you need are a couple of school tool boxes (pencil boxes) and some salt! I put half a bottle in each pencil box, but generally you want enough to cover the bottom.
If you would like the words edited to meet your program, please let me know!
Thanks again for purchasing this fun, and most important, developmentally appropriate center activity!
