This project is sure to WOW your students and thier parents!
This STEM product includes a foldable which helps students:
S= Science: understand the difference between a physical change and a chemical change. The process of making the Salt Candles and completing the Foldable, make understanding Physical change and Chemical change a breeze!
T= Technology: There is a technology component with links to Student Friendly sites for center work which allows your students to research the parts of a candle. [I'm also working on a webquest for this~ which should be out soon!]
E= Engineering: This gives your students a chance to demonstrate what they have learned about the science of candles when they create a model of a candle to show their learning.
M= There is actually quite a bit of math involved in the preparation of this project. I've added three multi-step problems for students to solve involving how much salt and wax to purchase, as well as how much string to use in making the wicks.
Students bring in baby food jars for the project, color salt and make their own candle to give as a Christmas gift.
A foldable is included to reinforce the difference between a chemical and physical change.
