This is a tried and true game that my students always love to play. I have been working on basic greetings and wanted a quick and easy game to play this week, so I made these cards. I will use these in my Spanish 1 class to play the slap game or for matching.
For slap: I copy just the Spanish (or just the English) cards, cut and laminate them.
To play: I divide my students into teams of three. Each team gets a set of cards & they spread them out face up on the table/desks. Two students will play against each other, while the third is the referee/judge. The judge has a list/book/notes to verify answers, if necessary. I call out the phrase/word in English (or Spanish) and the first student to slap/grab the correct Spanish (or English) translation gets to keep the card. The student with the most cards at the end of the round wins. We play several rounds so that the judge/referee rotates and everyone gets a chance to play/practice.
For matching, I copy both English and Spanish cards, cut and laminate them. I make enough sets so that there are enough for students to work alone or in pairs. They can use the cards as flashcards to quiz each other or play memory/matching.
