This Socratic seminar plan for discussion is based on the text, Salvadore: Late or Early by Sandra Cisneros from her book, "Women Hollering Creek and Other Stories" Random House. 1991 and is suitable for grades 7-10. .
My seminar plans are based on the Paideia philosophy. The National Paideia Center's definition of a Socratic seminar is, "A collaborative intellectual dialogue facilitated by open ended questions about a text." www.padieia.org. The Socratic seminar builds critical thinking skills and provides practice in reading strategies and builds on the Common Core standards most specifically, reading and speaking and listening.
I have been a Paideia facilitator for a K-12 academic magnet school for 10 years and now serve our suburban public school district as an Instructional Coach.
I have other products including many seminar plans for grade levels K-12, and will offer reference materials for conducting Socratic seminars.
