Want to include volunteers from all over the world in your classroom? Want to get your students excited about geography? Try using Sammy Seagull!
We send a parent letter at the beginning of the year explaining the project. As postcards are received, they are shared and then displayed around the border of the map, with yarn going from the postcard to the place from where it came. We suggest having a large US map and a large world map because chances are you will receive postcards from other countries! One year we counted over 150 postcards from just one class! We have received postcards from Dubai, New Zealand, Austria, Russia, and many more. We never thought we would have received such a wonderful response, but we did, and you can, too!
This is by far our favorite year-long project. Try it out and let us know what you think!
